The tapered handle of this knife combined with its light weight makes it a favorite among gardeners. Opinel No.08 gardening knife is the most versatile size in the ever-growing line of Opinel gardening knives.
Hand wash only. Do not immerse your knife in water, as this could warp the wooden handle. Dry the blade before closing.
Keep your blade sharp and your handle shiny with our maintenance kit.

I won't be carrying my #8 in my pocket, but it is a very good knife. I bought this "Gardener" version so I could get an Opinel with the "Spear Point". I like the blade profile a lot, & I wish I could get a Spear Point in a #6 and a #7. My #8 Gardener's blade & Rotating Ring were a little tight outta the box, but I'm working on making that easier. I put a 17* bevel on it, using my Lansky. It cuts like crazy, & I hope I can find a use for it around the house or garage.
I really love the size and profile of this knife for gardening. The only fault is the same for all Opinel knives, they do not hold an edge. It is easy to resharpen using ceramic stones (Spyderco) but cutting into plants and soil dulls the edge in short order.
Got the gardening version of the number 8 knife as a complement to my regular number 8. The spear point blade of the gardening knife can be better than the regular clip point for some types of precise cutting. These knives make a nice pair of tools for different jobs. I'm glad to have the choice of blades. I prefer carbon steel blades and wish the gardening version came in carbon. But otherwise, no complaints.
I have a N08 Carbon, N06 and N08 stainless, and have used them on and off for a couple years. I was very curious about the difference in shape and I much prefer it over the classic shape. I bought it when it came back in stock last June and I love it. It's lighter, pointy-er and I think still quite ergonomic. The blade does poke into the handle but that doesn't bother me. It's a bit harder to "knock" the handle to release the blade but that doesn't bother me either. I thought this would be easier to picnic with but after using my No8 to spread some cheese I'm reconsidering that part. I love it overall. Cheap, handsome, reliable
First Opinel purchase (along with a carbone No.06) and very happy to have finally pulled the trigger. Knife is elegantly designed, lightweight, ridiculously sharp out of the box, and very nicely put together. I've had it for all of 48 hours and it's already been in the garden for harvest, twine cutting, slicing a piece of burlap (is there anything out there that more thoroughly puts an edge to test than an old piece of burlap?) and it tackled all the work with flying colors. The blade is fabulous. The locking ring works quite nicely. Lightweight enough that it doesn't weigh down the pocket where it lives. My only thought on improvement might be to lengthen the handle an inch or so. As an EDC pocket carry, the small handle is fine. But in the garden it would be nice to be able to get the whole hand around the handle for those times when you have to reach through the tangle of tomato vines to slice off a few tomatoes, etc. Blade is plenty long as it is. I may have to purchase these for all my gardening staff!

We use Sandvik 12C27 modified stainless steel. It is anti-corrosive thanks to the addition of chrome and requires no special maintenance. Its carbon content of at least 0.40% provides an excellent cutting edge and is easily sharpened.
All garden knifes include our patented safety ring that keeps the blade locked open while in use and locked shut while in transport.
