About Opinel USA We’re a 130-year-old startup. What do we mean by that? Opinel has a long history tracing back to 1890 in France, where Joseph Opinel first crafted his now famous pocket knife. Our classic No.08 knife is a design icon and everyday tool, and “Opinel” is even listed in the French dictionary as a generic term for a pocket knife.
But here in the United States, we’re just getting started! After establishing our US subsidiary in 2016, the Opinel USA team set to work introducing Opinel’s famous pocket knives, kitchen tools, and accessories to a broader audience on this side of the Atlantic. Our team is headquartered in Chicago, and though our brand roots are in the Alps, our job today is to introduce foragers in Portland, home chefs in Austin, and backpackers in Asheville to the simple pleasures of an Opinel knife.
We value sustainability, good food, the great outdoors, and a sense of adventure in our everyday lives — whether we’re heading out on a multi-day trek or just popping down to the community garden on the corner.
