The No.09 DIY Folding Utility Knife is the perfect tool to have around the house, in your car, or even on a boat. The polymer handle is reinforced to withstand extreme temperatures and extended exposure to water. The drop-point blade is robust and great for tough jobs. It features two wire cutting notches which help make quick work of electrical applications. The handle can hold standard 1" bits and the tail end of the handle has a magnetic hole which lets you use the knife as a screwdriver for light-duty tasks. Make sure to close the blade of the knife and lock it with the Virobloc locking ring before using the included Philips and flat-head drivers.
No specific care required.

Love it, Do maintenance work, is great for cutting ceiling tile and breaking down boxes
I have several Opinel kinives and like them very much so I decided to put this utility knife in my kitchen drawer for opening packages, quick household repairs etc. It's build really well, came incredibly sharp and takes an edge really well when needed. Really useful and much better than using a box cutter etc for these kinds of things because this knife does that and so much more.
I purchased two of these knives for a couple of emergency radio deployment kits I am stocking. The bits are fine for the fairly light work needed around radios and the cutter and stripper work well with a little practice. I used to strip wire with an old Barlow knife, this is a big step up.
OK, I really slammed this blade in a review recently. So I thought let’s work with this blade over time and learn what it does best. First of all I now know how easy it is to remove the locking ring. A moment with ring pliers and you are off to the races. So any lock issues are now resolved. Once I had the blade sharpened up it’s been fine. Understand the drivers are medium duty at best, great good to go and that feature works fine. This morning I was faced with two large furniture cartons that had to be cut up and put out in the trash container. Figured OK let’s see how this blade and lock put up with this task. No issues at all and there was a lot of cutting and slicing. Very pleased. Glad I’ve put in some time with this blade. More Opinell news to come. BTW I was very pleased in the customer service they have. Very responsive.
Hi Jeffrey, Thank you very much for putting our Opinel DIY to work, and glad to hear that after some time with it, you got to appreciate its blade and multifunction. Let us know if you ever need anything, we love to help. Sincerely,
I've handled Opinels in the past finding the knives a solid light utility and cutting blade. This one was my first with a synthetic handles and it fit the need for a more utility piece of gear. Thanks to additional cutting surfaces on the blade and the driver bit options. The blade arrived nicely boxed and engraved with my working name of Pest Coach. Out of the box the edge was awful. Roughly and apparently ground in a hurry. Some time on a diamond hone and D2 steel has cleaned it up short of reprofiling the edge. The locking ring is slightly malformed so it's engagement on and off is not always a smooth process. The bit driver and holders work fine so for light duty meets the need for a fastening tool. Overall had the hope for a better quality tool knife for daily use. As it stands when I teach my industry classes small multitools are always an item. In the field techs need EDC tools they can depend on. Right now this Opinel example does not meet that requirement.
Dear Jeff, Thank you for your thorough review. I apologize that you had to re-sharpen the knife before being able to use it, but I am glad that ended up being an easy fix. As for the locking ring being malformed, we do have a Limited Lifetime Warranty that covers manufacturer defect so next time, do no hesitate to contact us because we would have fixed this for you or even send you a replacement if necessary. I am glad to hear that you are satisfied with the personalized engraving though and hope that you will keep preaching Opinel in your industry classed despite this experience. Sincerely,
